This is a simple recipe for Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. This recipe is a modified version of my buttercream frosting. It’s rich and silky!
Basic ingredients for chocolate buttercream recipe
One cup unsalted butter
226g 3/5 cups powdered sugar
435g 2/3 Cup cocoa powder
1/8-1/4 teaspoon of salt
3-4 Tablespoons milk or heavy cream plus any additional as required. A pinch of espresso powder is also a great addition to this recipe

First of all, Place butter in a bowl of a stand mixer or large bowl with an electric mixer. Now Beat on low speed until smooth and creamy. Scrape down the bowl’s sides and bottom.
Mix 2 cups (250g), powdered sugar, cocoa pot, vanilla extract, 1/8 teaspoon salt, and 3 Tablespoons heavy cream.
Turn mixer on low speed. Mix until combined. Gradually add the remaining powdered sugar.
You may notice that the icing appears dry. This is normal. Begin by setting the mixer at low speed and slowly increasing speed to medium-high.
Continue beating for several seconds until each Tablespoon of cream is incorporated into the batter. Continue adding cream until the batter is smooth and pipeable. I recommend frosting or piping your cupcakes immediately. You can store buttercream in the post below.
Notes This recipe can be made with either Dutch or natural unsweetened cocoa powder.
